DeKALB — The wrestling team faced off against the North Dakota State University Bisons Sunday and struggled to get going against the Big-12 opponent, falling 34-3 in the match.

“We need to work on closing out periods and keeping our foot on the gas pedal after the first period,” said Head Coach Ryan Ludwig.

Redshirt junior Bryce Gorman defeated Cole Witzig of the Bisons, improving his season record to 7-6 this season and 3-4 in dual meets. He won by decision 8-4.

Paul Bianchi of the Bisons defeated sophomore Brock Hudkins at 125-pounds by decision 4-3. Hudkins has a record of 12-7 on the season and a 3-2 dual record. Hudkins was very close to winning this match against the Huskies until a late takedown by Bianchi gave him the loss.

At 133-pounds, redshirt junior Alijah Jeffery suffered a loss to Cam Sykora of North Dakota State. Jeffery lost by technical fall 18-3, and his season record dropped to 14-10.

Sophomore Anthony Rubino has struggled all season with a 1-16 record coming into Sunday. Rubino faced Nico Colunga of the Bisons and lost by decision 6-0. Rubino’s season record now sits at 1-17.

“We need to stay in a scoring mindset,” Ludwig said. “We came out attacking, and we let up.”

Freshman Nolan Baker faced off against Kyle Giva of the Bisons. Baker was defeated by Giva by major decision 16-3.

Redshirt sophomore Caden McWhirter suffered a loss against Clayton Ream of North Dakota State. McWhirter lost by decision 6-4 and now sits at 4-7 on the season.

At 165-pounds, Andrew Fogarty of the Bisons defeated redshirt junior Andrew Scott by fall.

Senior Quinton Rosser faced off against Dylan Urbach of the Bisons. Rosser lost by decision 9-3 and is now 9-13 on the season.

At 197-pounds, redshirt freshman Max Ihry lost by major decision to Cordell Eaton of North Dakota State.

Redshirt sophomore Caleb Gossett faced Daniel Stibral of North Dakota State. Gossett lost by decision 10-4. His record now sits 12-11 for the season.

“Every one of their guys up and down are great competitors and a win against them would be big,” Ludwig said.

The Huskies will be back in action 7 p.m. Friday, as they continue their home-stand to face the University of Missouri Tigers on Victor E. Court.
