Dining Hall Pasta: Exposed

By Ginger Simons

As someone who could eat pasta for every meal and also happens to rely heavily on my campus dining hall plan, I decided to investigate the pasta options offered at the different NIU dining halls. These meals are all offered on a regular basis in the various dining locations on campus, so if you’re enticed by the following reviews, feel free to check them out on your own.

1. Stevenson Dining: Decadent Spaghetti Noodles with Clumpy Red Sauce

This particular noodly delicacy is offered in the Stevenson Dining Hall at all times! (Or, at least during the now reduced four hours Stevenson Dining is open during the week). The bland spaghetti noodles were given a pop of color by the red marinara sauce, but unfortunately the same could not be said for the flavor. All in all, this is a good option for those who don’t want to eat greasy pizza or vague meat products every night.

2.  Neptune Dining: Stir Fry with Rice and Chow Mein Noodles (for some reason)

This is certainly one of the better options at Neptune dining hall, as it’s completely customizable! There are a number of meat and non-meat options to choose from but they’re all fried together in the same skillet, so vegetarians beware. This particular dish is topped with soy sauce, which is mighty flavorful, but I’m kind of glad I don’t know the sodium content.

3. New Hall Dining: Elbow Spaghetti Noodles with Red Sauce (and a Breadstick!)

You read the title, folks. A breadstick. Though, like Stevenson, the pasta’s flavor left something to be desired, this somewhat stale breadstick took the cake. Would you like some carbs with those carbs? For me, the answer is always yes. The other halls could learn something from you, New Hall. Keep up the good work.
