The women’s tennis team continued their season at the Drake Invitational Friday through Sunday. The team totaled six singles victories and two doubles wins on the Drake University courts located in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Huskies were led by freshman Maria Potsi, who reached the championship round in singles at Flight B. She won her opening match (6-1, 6-1) over Kenya Williams of Drake and her second match over University of Nebraska – Omaha player in Kylie Boyer (7-5, 6-4). Potsi then won her third match (6-2, 6-4) over Luana Stanciu of South Dakota to advance to the championship match where she fell short to Elly Hartnett of North Dakota (4-6, 6-3, 7-5).

Senior Abigail Dekkinga and sophomore Brodie Walker split their pair of matches in doubles at Flight B. The duo opened with a win (8-3) over Darby Rosette and Kendra Lavallee of Creighton but lost the championship match against Augustana’s Taylor Jackson and Grace Goble (8-3).

Freshman Thisuiri Molligoda, Walker and Dekkinga all finished 1-2 in their individual matches, all winning the first rounds of their consolation matches.

Molligoda picked up a win (6-2, 6-4) against Preethi Kasilingam of North Dakota;, Walker defeated Harri Proudfoot of Northern Iowa (6-1, 6-3) and Dekkinga won (6-2, 6-1) over Kendra Lavallee of Creighton.

Potsi and Molligoda went 1-2 in their doubles matches at Flight A. The pair won their first consolation match (3-0) over Upper Iowa but lost their opening match against South Dakota and their final consolation match against North Dakota.

At flight 3 singles, Senior Michelle Erasmus finished 0-2 in matches against South Dakota and Northern Iowa.

In flight A doubles, Molligoda and Potsi won the second match but were unable to win the first and third, going 1-2.

The Huskies will continue their season at the Bradley Invitational. The event will begin Friday and will finish Sunday in Peoria, Illinois.
