Cubs beat Indians in game five, 3-2

DeKALB | The Chicago Cubs defeated the Cleveland Indians 3-2 in game five of the World Series on Sunday night, forcing a game six with the Indians up 3-1 in the World Series.

The Cubs got another good performance in six innings from Jon Lester, but were led by their strong closer in Aroldis Chapman, who pitched an uncharacteristic 2.2 innings and got the job done down the stretch.

A performance like his was exactly what the Cubs needed from Chapman. Cubs Manager Joe Maddon was forced to bring him in to pitch in the seventh inning and he never looked back.

The Cubs got a good hitting performance from shortstop Addison Russell, who went 2-4 with an RBI in an inconsistent playoff stretch for him. Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant is optimistic about the team’s chances as the series continues.

“We feel good about it,” Bryant said. “Hopefully we win [game six] and you never know what could happen in a game seven.”

The Cubs will look to their 2015 National League Cy Young winner Jake Arietta in game six to extend the series to a game seven. Arietta earned the Cubs first World Series win in game two of the series.

Another positive for the Cubs going into game six is that they will be able to add outfielder Kyle Schwarber back into the lineup. Schwarber missed the last three games because he was not medically cleared to play in the outfield.

Game six of the World Series begins 7:08 p.m. Tuesday night at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
