Q & A: inside the life of Drew Hare

By Patrick Smith

DeKALB | Football season is approaching with a showdown on the road on Sept. 3 against University of Wyoming. With the season so near, the Northern Star decided to ask senior quarterback Drew Hare some questions about the season and himself.

Q: Is it difficult to balance social life with athletics and scholastics?

A: I mean it was difficult when I first got here, but as you move along through the process, you learn how to handle it on the go.

Q: What’s your typical meal before game night?

A: I don’t eat the day of the game but the night before the game. I eat food such as prime ribs, mashed potatoes, corn, chicken and all that great stuff.

Q: If you weren’t playing quarterback at NIU, where would you be right now?

A: I don’t know. I never really thought about that. If I wasn’t playing football for NIU, [I’d] probably be at a state school in Missouri. That decision would have been purely based on expenses.

Q: What’s your max bench press?

A: My max bench press is around 250 pounds.

Q: What’s your relationship with your offensive line?

A: The offensive line is great. I love all of them and are relationship is extremely close.

Q: How good do you feel the offense is going to be this season?

A: I feel we have a good chance to be very good, and if we execute, the sky is the limit. I think there is a lot of talent everywhere, and if we play to abilities, we’re going to be pretty good.

Q: Do you feel this team can compete in the Midwest All-American Conference?

A: Of course. We returned a lot of guys, and we are returning a lot of talent. We should be alright.

Q: How does it feels being a senior on the team?

A:It feels good honestly to be back with the team. I’m just extremely excited to be back with the guys, and being one of the leaders again is a good feeling.

Q: How are you looking to become a better leader?

A: You can always get better at things. I feel that being a better leader [means] I just needs to keep making relationships with all the 105 guys on the team. So being able to connect with everyone is something that I strive to do even though it may be difficult.

Q: Do you feel like the team returning this year is complete?

A: I think every position is without a doubt very talented. It’s just a matter of showing it out on the field.
