Observatory to hold special daytime viewing for rare Mercury transit

By Northern Star staff

The Operating Staff Council will hold a daytime telescope viewing Monday from 6:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and a private viewing May 11 from 9-11 p.m in the Davis Hall Observatory, Room 703.

People can view Mercury in transit in front of the sun Monday, which only happens 13 times this century, according to an NIU news release.

May 11 is a special reserved viewing due to popular demand.

Contact Pamela Roesner at 815-753-9202 or email at [email protected] to RSVP for the May 11 event.

The observatory is closed when the weather isn’t suitable for viewing such as when it is cloudy or rainy.
