Student cultural performances to be shown at Cultural Fusion

The Student Association and Asian American Association are coming together to hold the Cultural Fusion Show, showcasing both diversity and culture.

The show will feature different organizations, groups and solo performances as people of different ethnicities and nationalities sing, dance and recite poetry. The event is a way for students to showcase their diversity through performance. Cultural Fusion will be at 7 p.m. Friday in the Carl Sandburg Auditorium.

Afreen Warsi, event coordinator and public affairs chairwoman for the SA, said putting this event together is a bit tedious.

“There are a lot of finer details that have to be finalized prior to the event so I’m hoping it goes smoothly,” Warsi said.

The event is designed to make people feel comfortable in their own skin and embrace their culture and be proud of where they come from. It is also for the audience to enjoy and learn to appreciate the diversity of cultures at NIU, Warsi said

“I just hope everyone comes out to enjoy themselves,” Warsi said. “It should be fun.”

The Asian American Association reached out to Warsi, informing her they were doing something similar and they joined together due to gained interest, Warsi said.

Ari Owens, director for the student association, said she is most excited about different cultures coming together.
