Pass/Fail: Diversity Dialogues promote discussions, NIU Wi-Fi outages

By Kara Mercer

Fail:

NIU’s Wi-Fi went down today, which causes a lot of problems for the whole campus. Students rely on their computers to turn in assignments and do research. Professors often rely on the internet for their lectures. Offices around campus communicate through emails. Health Services relies on Wi-Fi to access their patient’s history. This campus needs Wi-Fi, and there should be a back up so the outages are not such a big deal. It also took NIU an hour and ten minutes to notify students about the outages and that they’re working on fixing the Wi-Fi, so more prompt notifications in the future would also help.

Pass:

NIU is going to launch a new series called Diversity Dialogues. These dialogues will occur monthly, and the first one will be held today from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center, Carl Sandburg Auditorium. These dialogues will be great for students to learn new things, as the first one is entitled “The First Amendment Free Speech and Lawful Assembly.” It is important for students to know about free speech and the right to peacefully assemble on college campuses, which will be discussed.
