Spring Break Staycation Guide

By Jay Ibarra

You don’t have to go away for spring break to have fun; there are plenty of events going on locally.

Here are some of the event’s going on in the area you can check out.

DeKalb

Stage Coach Players Theatre, 126 S. Fifth St., will hold a performance of the musical “Mary Poppins” Wednesday through Sunday and March 16-20. Catch the weeknight shows at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway, will host a Craft and Vendor Fair at 11 a.m. Saturday. The event is free and open to anyone in the DeKalb area.

Chicago

The annual dyeing of the Chicago River event will take place 9 a.m. Saturday in downtown Chicago. The river will turn green for St. Patrick’s Day, right before the Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade at noon. Go early to find a good spot to watch the river turn green — the east side of the Michigan Avenue Bridge is a great spot to watch the dye run downstream.

The Parade will air on ABC 7 from noon to 1 p.m.

Illinois

It’s finally time for Illinois to vote in the 2016 primary election on March 15. This means that all of the candidates will make their way to Illinois to rally for your vote.

What better way than to spend your break than to vote for a presidential nominee?
