Women’s tennis dropped to 4-4 this weekend after falling to the University of Illinois at Chicago (4-2), breaking its two-game winning streak.

Senior Cristina Alvarez and junior Adey Osabuohien won the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches for the Huskies, but the team went on to lose its final four singles matches — a hole it wasn’t able to crawl out of.

“It’s great to see Adey [Osabuohien] and Cristina [Alvarez] continue to play so well,” said head coach Tanya Gombera, according to an NIU Athletics news release. “They are great leaders for our team and their hard work is being rewarded with strong starts to the spring season,”

NIU’s next contest will be this week – the team will return home to play University of Wisconsin-Green Bay at 2 p.m. Saturday in Rockford.
