By Northern Star staff

Football (8-5. 6-3 MAC) will face off against Boise State (8-4, 5-3 MWC) in the Poinsettia Bowl on Dec. 23 after losing to Bowling Green in the MAC Championship on Friday.

The Huskies have now made it to eight consecutive bowl games, a record for NIU and the MAC. They’ve also played a bowl game in 10 of the last 12 seasons. They last played in the Poinsettia Bowl in the 2013-14 season, facing off against Utah State and falling 21-14. They also played in the bowl in 2006, going up against Texas Christian University and taking a 37-7 blowout loss.

NIU could move to 9-5 with a win, which would give it its first season with less than 11 wins since 2009-10. The team has also finished with at least 12 wins in two of its last five seasons.

Boise State is coming off a 40-23 win against San Jose State in its season finale. The Broncos finished fourth in their division.

The game will take place at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 23 in San Diego and will air on ESPN.
