Pass: HSC lights support Paris, Fail: Weekday home games too noisy

By Kara Mercer

Pass:

With the tragedies that have happened in Paris, I am proud of my university for lighting up the Holmes Student Center last weekend with French colors. The NIU community is used to the red and white lights, but adding the blue really showed NIU’s support. In times of tragedy people need to stick together, and I’m glad our university was a part of the movement to support an allied country when it so desperately needed it.

Fail:

Having football games on weekdays may ensure more students are on campus to attend the game, but it is also inconvenient to those who have classes and other school responsibilities. The games typically start later in the day, but some night classes don’t get out until 8:40 p.m. Football games are also very noisy, which could pose a problem for students who choose to stay in to complete assignments, especially those who live near the stadium.
