City Council approved the fiscal 2016 budget, which includes a general fund surplus of more than $500,000, Monday.

The fiscal 2016 budget sits at $83 million, down almost 6 percent from this fiscal year’s $88.1 million budget. City Council approved an amendment to the budget that allowed a surplus of more than $450,000 in the general fund revenue at a June 8 meeting, but further cuts by city staff resulted in a $502,743 surplus.

Ward 1 Alderman David Jacobson and Ward 7 Alderman Monica O’Leary voted against the budget.
