NIU men’s tennis: Huskies hit road for pair of matches

By Patrick Smith

Men’s tennis will close in on the end of the regular season with a pair of road games this weekend.

The Huskies (15-5, 2-1 MAC) will be on the road against the Detroit Titans (5-11) 3 p.m. Thursday in Detroit.

NIU will look to win back-to-back road games after beating Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne on Sunday. A win will put the Huskies over .500 in true road games this season.

“Yes, I believe every game is tough,” said head coach Patrick Fisher. “Never take any team lightly. It’s their Senior Day, and they will be playing very hard.

“We’re confident that we can win this game. Each game is an opportunity to get more experience and a chance to get better with these young guys.”

The Huskies’ second game this weekend will be against the Toledo Rockets at noon Thursday in Toledo, Ohio.

The Huskies are tied for first in the MAC with a 2-1 record two conference games left in the regular season. The MAC Championships began April 24 in DeKalb.

“We’re taking each game one at a time,” Fisher said. “We’re thinking about Detroit today and after that Toledo. We’re not thinking about the MAC Championships. We still have a long way to go in the season.”
