Men’s basketball: Marshawn Wilson tweets that he committed to NIU

By Northern Star staff

Men’s basketball picked up a stellar commit when four-star guard Marshawn Wilson announced on Twitter on Tuesday that he will be attending NIU.

Wilson, from Oakdale, Minn., also had offers from Wisconsin, Northern Iowa, Creighton and Colorado State, according to ESPN.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound guard played his high school basketball at Hill-Murray School. He was named the Minneapolis-St. Paul Pioneer Press Player of the Year, a finalist for Minnesota’s Mr. Basketball and made Minnesota’s AP All-State team.

Wilson is graded as a four-star recruit by ESPN and is ranked as the No. 4 player in Minnesota. ESPN has Wilson listed as a point guard while Rivals has him listed as a shooting guard.

Wilson plays his AAU basketball with Wisconsin United with Levi Bradley, who committed to NIU during the early signing period, according to a Nov. 13 news release.

Head coach Mark Montgomery is not available to comment on recruits until the signing period, which opens on April 15.
