NIU men’s tennis: Huskies extend win streak to 3, prepare for Buffalo

By Patrick Smith

Men’s tennis extended their win streak to three games as they took down conference opponent the Toledo Rockets on Saturday.

The Huskies (17-5, 3-1MAC) defeated the Rockets (11-14, 1-2 MAC) 5-2 on Saturday in Toledo, Ohio.

“We set the tone [Saturday] in doubles,” said head coach Patrick Fisher. “Then from the five and six position we really dominated, but Toledo didn’t go down easy as they gave us a little run at the end. We knew they was going to make a run so we [were] prepared.”

Fisher said the team’s confidence is high. They now control their own destiny to win the MAC regular season championship for the second-straight year.

The Huskies’ next game is April 19 in Buffalo, NY. They will play a hungry Buffalo team that has lost six-straight games and needs a win to stay in playoff contention.

“I feel Buffalo is always a tough trip,” Fisher said. “They’re in a really desperate position. They’re 0-2 in the conference and we know that we’re going to get their absolute best. They’re in a deep hole because they’re currently in fifth place and only four teams can make the conference tournament.”

The MAC Championships start on April 24 in DeKalb.
