Pete Rakocevic, men’s basketball redshirt senior center, threw down a thundering two-hand slam that forced the hoop to collapse.

Rakocevic’s dunk came in the Huskies’ upset win over the MAC West-leading Central Michigan Chippewas, 73-55, Saturday at the Convocation Center.

Rakocevic played only eight minutes, but he made his presence felt as his second-half dunk to put NIU up 48-32 with 12:51 to play caused the basketball stanchion to collapse, forcing a delay of a few minutes.

“I was feeling bouncy today, and I just went up and dunked it,” Rakocevic said. “I didn’t even know I brought it down until I was crossing half court and Michael Orris shoved me.”

Video of Rakocevic’s dunk led one ESPN SportsCenter’s Saturday night shows.
