Chemistry Club’s demo night to focus on hot and cold reactions

Chemistry Club will hold its annual Chemistry Demo Night 7 p.m. March 27 in Faraday Hall, Room 143.

Jon Carnahan, chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, said there will be free parking in the parking garage. This year the event’s theme is Chemistry is Hot and Chemistry is Cold. There will be a Team Hot and a Team Cold composed of students who will give demonstrations of reactions that involve heating and cooling, as well as other types of effects, Carnahan said. These chemical reactions, which produce light and heat, are for entertainment purposes, Carnahan said.

Experiments will include flashes and bright lights and the reactions from those lights produce small amounts of smoke and create loud sounds. Audience members will not be allowed to sit in the front row as a safety precaution, according to a flier about the event.

“We expect to fill Faraday Hall,” Carnahan said.

This event is free and all ages are welcome. Contact [email protected] for more information.
