NIU women’s golf: Kester likes chances at Bearcat Classic

By Patrick Smith

Women’s golf is prepared to have a strong outing Friday at the Bearcat Classic in Cincinnati, Ohio, as it comes off a disappointing finish in the Rio Verde Invitational.

The Northern Star spoke with head coach Kim Kester about the Bearcat Classic.

Q: … Is the team confident about the upcoming tournament?

A: We definitely like our chances to win this event. It’s going to be tough, but we’re ready.

Q: What does the team need to do differently to avoid the last game’s outcome?

A: We have to keep every ball in play because we hit the ball out of bounds too much last game. We need to hit fairways, greens and get to the hole in the fewest strokes possible.

Q: Do you believe if you guys do well in this tournament this can propel you guys for a run at the championship?

A: Yes, I believe a great showing in this event can help us. We look to improve in every tournament and we look to carry momentum from one tournament to the next every time we hit the green.
