Weekend blizzard to clear up, but more storms expected

A weekend blizzard that produced more than a foot of snow will clear today, though more storms are expected to hit DeKalb throughout the week.

The storm produced nearly twice February’s average snowfall of 7.3 inches and will drop the temperature to a high of 15 degrees today, said NIU meteorologist Gilbert Sebenste. DeKalb has entered an active pattern and will see more snow Tuesday and again toward the weekend, though the amount of future snowfall is not yet clear, Sebenste said.

“If you wonder where winter went, it just went on a hiatus,” Sebenste said.

The current weather conditions, similar to those of four years ago at this time when a blizzard produced more than 20 inches of snow, are the result of two storm systems that merged into one Saturday over Iowa and Missouri, Sebenste said.
