Snowball fight brings in about 100 people to celebrate snow day

About 100 people showed up for a student-organized snowball fight Monday.

Senior journalism major Mikey Pastrana set up the Facebook event for this year’s event with his friend, Michael Payne. The pair wanted to celebrate the cancellation of classes Monday, as NIU took a snow day after a Sunday blizzard dumped more than a foot of snow on DeKalb, according to the Facebook event.

Two years ago we did it behind the U.P. and it was a campus-wide thing so it was pretty cool,” Pastrana said.

Pastrana said he was hit by a lot of snowballs but was having fun.

The fight attracted students of all ages to come have some snow day fun.

“I didn’t really want to write a paper so I decided to come out here instead and see who’s out here,” said Megan Sergeant, junior special education major.

Maaz Baig, senior computer science major, said he heard about the snowball fight through a friend. A Facebook event for the snowball fight had more than 400 people people say they would attend.
