City Council pushes back 1st reading of ordinance that would change fire, safety inspections for businesses

By Northern Star staff

Business and property owners asked City Council to push back the first reading of a business inspections ordinance at Monday’s council meeting.

City workers and the property owners went through the current draft of the ordinance and made revisions to clarify wording. Property owners asked the City Council to move the reading back to Feb. 9. The city would be able to remove business licenses if businesses fail to comply with fire and safety inspections.

Bar entry age

NIU Student Association members attended the meeting to introduce their proposal of lowering the entry age for bars in DeKalb from 21 to 20.

SA representatives said the change would be beneficial to students and shareholders. Their reason for voicing their opinion stems from not wanting prejudgment on the issue interfering with decisions that may be made in the future.
