By Northern Star Staff

NIU and Rich Harvest Farms have been selected to serve as the host and site, respectively, of the 2017 Division I Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships, according to an NCAA news release.

NIU, which became a major college sports program in 1969, will host its first NCAA Championship final in any sport. Rich Harvest Farms, the home of NIU’s men’s and women’s golf teams, is located in Sugar Grove.

The women’s golf championship will take place May 18-24, 2017. The men’s golf championship will follow, being played from May 25-31.

Sugar Grove will be the first Illinois city to host the Division I Golf Championships since Conway Farms Golf Club (just outside of Chicago) served as host in 1997. The only other Illinois city to play host was Cook County’s Olympia Fields Country Club in 1943.

Rich Harvest Farms, named one of Golf Digest Magazine’s 100 greatest golf course in America, has been award the 2015 Palmer Cup, 2015 Western Amateur and the LPGA’s 2016 UL International Crown.
