Outdoor Adventures is hosting a variety of winter events for students, faculty and staff.

Eagle Festival

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 24: the group will be spending the day at Starved Rock State Park for the Outdoor Adventures Eagle Festival.

The day will be spent learning about and looking for eagles. Outdoor Adventures will provide transportation and lunch. A program of the festival’s events can be found here. Early registration ends Jan. 16 and costs $20 for students and $25 for faculty, staff and community members.

Regular registration ends Jan. 22 and costs $25 for students and $30 for faculty, staff and community members.

Winter Wonderland

5-9 p.m. Jan. 27: Outdoor Adventures will host a Winter Wonderland event at the Adventure Center and the East Lagoon. There will be ice skating, snowshoeing and cross country skiing equipment provided for students to use at no cost. 

Crate Climbing

5-7 p.m. Feb. 2: Students are invited to the Recreation Center to try crate climbing, which involves stacking and scaling crates while in a harness. The event is free.

Moonlight Snowshoe

8-10 p.m. Feb. 3: Outdoor Adventures will travel to Afton Forest Preserve for a Moonlight Snowshoe.

Outdoor Adventures will provide snowshoes, hot cocoa and transportation.

Early registration for this event ends Jan. 23 and is $10 for students and $15 for faculty, staff and community members. Regular registration ends Feb. 2 and is $15 for students and $20 for faculty, staff and community members.

Beginner Snowboarding

9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 7: Outdoor Adventures will take a day trip to Lake Carroll Ski Hill for a Beginner Snowboarding Day Trip.

The group will provide transportation, lift ticket, instruction, snowboarding equipment and hot cocoa and snacks.

The early registration deadline for this event is Jan. 30 and is $25 for students and $30 for faculty, staff and community members. Regular registration ends Feb. 5 and is $30 for students and $35 for faculty, staff and community members.

Snowshoe Day Hike

9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Outdoor Adventures will travel to Lowden Miller State Forest for a Snowshoe Day Hike.

The group will provide transportation, instruction, snowshoes and lunch.

Early registration ends Jan. 30 and is $20 for students and $25 for faculty, staff and community members. Regular registration ends Feb. 5 and is $25 for students and $30 for faculty, staff and community members.

Chestnut Mountain Resort Skiing and Snowboarding

1 p.m. to midnight Feb. 13: Outdoor Adventures will take to the slopes for skiing and snowboarding at Chestnut Mountain Resort in Galena.

Registration includes lift ticket, transportation, instruction and snowboard equipment. Participants may also bring their own equipment. Hot coca and snacks will also be provided, but skiing or snowboarding at Chestnut is an additional $20 and dinner is not included.

Early registration ends Feb. 6 and is $40 for students and $50 for faculty, staff and community members. Regular registration ends Feb. 12 and is $50 for students and $60 for faculty, staff and community members.

Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve Skiing

9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 15: You don’t need experience in cross country skiing to attend Outdoor Adventures’ event at Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve in Darien.

Instruction will be provided for beginners and registration includes transportation, instruction, boots, skis and poles and lunch.

Early registration ends Feb. 6 and costs $20 for students and $25 for faculty, staff and community members. Regular registration ends Feb. 12 and costs $25 for students and $30 for faculty, staff and community members.
