Redshirt sophomore Drew Hare appears to be football’s starting quarterback for the rest of the season, but he won’t be alone under center.

Head coach Rod Carey said his intentions are for Hare to be the Huskies’ starting quarterback for the rest of the season during a Tuesday news conference. Hare has been NIU’s starter since he keyed a second-half victory against the Northwestern Wildcats Sept. 6. When he couldn’t get the offense going against Kent State Saturday, the Huskies relied more on Anthony Maddie.

“Drew’s our starter,” Carey said. “Drew’s our starter, and we’ll have a plan for Maddie like we always do. … I fully expect Drew to play really well and Maddie to come in and play well and not turn the ball over. Those are my expectations.”

Bob Cole, offensive coordinator and quarerbacks coach, said when Maddie is in, as opposed to Hare, he may call some extra designed quarterback runs.
