Faculty Senate to discuss NIU PLUS

By Northern Star Staff

Recommendations for baccalaureate and general education programs by NIU Progressive Learning in Undergraduate Studies will be presented at Faculty Senate today.

Faculty Senate will hold its first meeting of the 2014-2015 academic year from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center Sky Room. Associate Vice Provost Michael Kolb and associate music professor Ed Klonoski will lead the NIU PLUS presentation of recommendations that may reduce up to 11 credit hours of baccalaureate requirements if students complete their general education program at NIU, take major studies courses that satisfy general education requirements, take general education or major studies courses that satisfy writing requirements and take a career success course in the major degree program, according to the Faculty Senate agenda.

Selection of the vice president and secretary of Faculty Senate will also be considered at the meeting, as well as a first reading of revisions to Faculty Senate bylaws that would change how the faculty and SPS personnel adviser and president of Faculty Senate are evaluated.
