By Steve Shonder

Kim Gotlund flies in as Sports’ No. 9 athlete of 2013-2014 with her rock-solid performance throughout the season.

Gotlund was gymnastics’ only all-around competitor this season and she made every meet count during her senior season. Her season- and career-high all-around total came when she scored a 39.075 during NIU’s final regular season meet at Arizona State March 14.

She also posted the second-highest team score on uneven bars, 9.8, versus Nebraska Jan. 11, as well as the Huskies’ fourth-highest team score on balance beam, 9.8. Her 9.8 came against Central Michigan March 2.

Gotlund capped off her year with a trip to the NCAA Regionals in Fayetteville, Ark., where she scored a 38.1.

“Even though it wasn’t my best meet, I have to look [at the] big picture,” Gotlund said. “I had my best year out of my whole four years at NIU. [It was] a great way to end my career.”

Gotlund upped the ante ever year of her career, especially this season. She set several career-high marks and leaves the Huskies in a strong place.

“I’m really honored,” Gotlund said. “There’s so many great athletes at NIU. It’s awesome.”
