Preview: Best Picture is close race for the Oscar

The Academy Awards are the biggest consistent event in Hollywood.

With categories ranging from Best Picture and Best Animated Feature Film to Best Film Editing and Best Documentary Feature, Hollywood’s best and brightest all come together on this night.

In recent years, the Academy Awards have increased the number of films nominated for Best Picture. This year, there are nine films nominated, though in 2004 there were only five films nominated. It seems that the competition this year is between “12 Years a Slave,” “American Hustle” and “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

Best Animated Feature Film has some tough competition. Disney’s “Frozen” is considered a top contender this year; however, “Despicable Me 2” and “The Croods” may give it a run for its money.

The song “Let It Go” from Disney’s “Frozen” is nominated for Best Original Song. Idina Menzel, who plays Elsa, will perform the song. In the past, Disney has had a tendency to sweep this award when nominated, so it would be no surprise to avid Oscar watchers if “Let It Go” were to win.

The Oscars are never a disappointing night. Every winner has something incredible to say and sometimes genuinely hilarious to listen.
