Metallic, Macklemore shine at Grammys

By Aymie Telinski

The fashion and performers of the Grammy Awards was full of shocking moments and glitter.

Metallic was one of the biggest trends of the Grammys’ red carpet. Performers like Rita Ora, Amber Rose and Ciara really took this look to another level. While some singers went for bold metallics, Katy Perry and Kacey Musgraves went for softer material choice, like sheer.

Taylor Swift’s dress really worked for her look; however, Swift should have changed her hair — she had a weird pony tail. During the show and her performance, her different hairstyle looked much better. The best-dressed was Kelly Osbourne in Badgley Mischka. The dress is pretty simple: long and black. But the shoulders had perfect embellishment, and her light purple hair is something I will be dreaming about.

The men of the night also tried some new things with their tuxes. Austin Mahone wore a black leather suit jacket that really made his look young and fun. Velvet suits were one of the biggest shocks of the night: Robin Thicke, LL Cool J and Macklemore all wore one and made the night fun and casual.

My favorite men of the night were power couple David Burtka and Neil Patrick Harris. Burtka’s jacket was a shimmering snake skin that was very fun and casual. Harris was the more serious of the two with a simple jacket, but still looked nice paired with Burtka.

Beyoncé opened the show with a performance of “Drunk in Love” with her husband Jay Z. This jaw-dropping performance set the tone for the rest of the night. It was full of dance moves that only the Queen can achieve. This was one of my favorites of the night and a performance I will watch again and soak up its perfection. Katy Perry was next to take the stage with her witching powers as she sang “Dark Horse.” Perry entered the stage in a crystal ball and had the audience under her spell. This performance was dark and different from her normal cute and sweet performances. At the end of the song, Perry got on a stake and was burned alive. Forget vampires and werewolves; witches are in.

Pink’s show-stopping aerobic act had me on the edge of my seat the whole performance. Every time she would flip or turn in her harness, I held my breath hoping she would safely make it back to the ground. Once she was on the ground, Nate Ruess from Fun. joined her to sing “Just Give Me a Reason.” Seeing the two perform this made me happy and reminded me how much I enjoy the duo’s voices together.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis performance of “Same Love” was emotional and record-breaking. During the middle of their performance, Queen Latifah came on stage and officiated 34 weddings. The couples were in the aisle of the venue and watching it really just made me smile. It was a touching way to end the song that means so much to so many different people.
