At 4:15 p.m. Nov. 12, NIU police arrested a student for unlawful possession of firearms after finding weapons in the student’s residence hall room.

NIU police said there is no threat to the campus or community, according to a news release.

University officials have banned the student from campus pending completion of a judicial review process.

“Firearms or weapons of any kind have no place on a college campus,” said NIU Police Chief Tom Phillips in the release.

According to the university’s concealed carry policy, weapons and firearms are prohibited on the campus. Violations of this will subject persons to arrest and referral for criminal prosecution and appropriate discipline up to and including expulsion from NIU in addition to any criminal charges.
