TV’s JV squad

Even though television features great shows this fall, some incredible ones are flying under the radar.

“Sleepy Hollow”

“Sleepy Hollow” is a Fox show based on Washington Irving’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” This show brings the headless horseman to modern times. “Sleepy Hollow” takes on a detective-horror-mystery vibe that ties police work to mysticism.

I was skeptical of the premise with the Sleepy Hollow legend being overdone. My opinion flipped once I saw this show. With clever writing and good acting, this show caught my eye from the start.

Tom Mison takes on the persona of an 18th century Sherlock Holmes who is trapped in 2013 with his character, Ichabod Crane. I’m looking forward to seeing where he goes with the role.

“Arrow”

This comic book-based television show has entered its second season and has not missed a beat. The show’s strong protagonist, Oliver Queen, has finally taken the moniker Green Arrow, and the superhero business has started rolling.

For new viewers, I recommend not starting with the second season of “Arrow.” The first season brought a lot of backstory and depth to the series. The new season is following suit and expanding even further into the universe of Queen.

“Arrow’s” second season will go further into the world of heroes with appearances from comic book favorites like Black Canary and the Flash. As this season continues, it will be exciting to see what other surprises the show will have for comic book lovers.

“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”

The show has been flying under the radar for many since 2005. I have found this to be the funniest show on television despite its lack of awards and high ratings. With the show going through its ninth season, it has yet to disappoint.

Describing this program is quite difficult for the uninitiated. It is bizarre and insane with extremely crude humor that many college students can enjoy.

Charlie Day and Danny DeVito play two of the most ridiculous characters I’ve ever seen on TV, and that’s no exaggeration. Comedy fans should not miss out on the antics in the new season of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”
