Feedback wanted for Douglas dining

By Dan Ehrhardt

Students will be able to give feedback on their Douglas dining experiences through an online survey.

The survey, which will be released later in the month, is designed to allow customers to be heard, share concerns or see how things are going in regard to Douglas Hall’s dining facility. Marketing intern Brandon Grosz said he will post fliers with information about the survey once it is ready.

“There was a customer satisfaction survey conducted last year and another will be posted online coming up this year,” Grosz said. “We try to suit the needs of everyone and the more input we get, the better.”

Some students have already decided what they want changed: Sophomore meteorology major Marc Quatrini wants to see hot breakfast meals brought back to the hall’s morning selections.

Freshman German major Jennifer Hesser is disappointed in the amount of traveling she has to do to find options when Douglas doesn’t suit her needs or schedule. The hall’s beginning-of-semester switch to a largely vegetarian menu doesn’t help, she said, as “the cafeteria is losing customers because of the change.”

“It takes up time to go to other places to eat,” Hesser said. “I went through the line and didn’t buy anything. It’s disappointing they don’t serve lunch, and I have to travel to New Hall at night.”

Immediate concerns can be brought to the manager at the dining center, and the student food committee discusses student input as it tries to improve the dining facilities. People can also voice their opinion through the NIU.edu/dining website.

“Our main goal is to service our customer base, whether they are living here or not, to the best of our ability,” Grosz said. “I put up fliers about the update and I recommend students to come to Douglas to try it out and try something new.”
