Two friends experimented with love in ’40 Days of Dating’

Experimenting with love can be a dangerous thing. Designer friends Jessica Walsh and Timothy Goodman took chances by with their project “40 Days of Dating.”

Walsh and Goodman were curious to see what happens when friends date and make a blog about it. They made some ground rules for the project at www.FortyDaysofDating.com/rules.

“Rule one: We will see each other every day for 40 days. Two: We will go on at least three dates a week. Three: We will see a couples therapist once a week. Four: We will go on one weekend trip together. Five: We will fill out the daily questionnaire and document everything. Six: We will not see, date, hookup, or have sex with anyone else.” At the end of each day, the couple fills out a questionnaire about how the date was, what they did and if they learned anything new about each other. With each blog post Walsh and Goodman include text messages they have sent to each other or little things they got each other.

I enjoyed reading about the relationship and being able to feel different emotions that Goodman and Walsh felt. On some of the days, they both commented on how their friends think theirs is a fake relationship and they haven’t developed feelings, even though the couple did.

I also enjoyed when Walsh mentioned something funny or embarrassing. Chances are that Goodman mentions it, too, but in a completely different way. It’s nice to look inside a relationship and see how different everyone sees a situations.

The blog is “tied up” at the moment, leaving readers in suspense, but the last four days of the experiment will be revealed soon.

“We launched the website without finishing the artwork for the posts (retouching the photos, editing the videos). We thought we’d have enough time to do this as we went along, but we didn’t expect the blog to go viral,” Walsh told TheGlobeandMail.com.

The fate of the relationship will be revealed soon, and new posts will include the couple’s trip to Disney World. I am really hoping they stay a couple.
