Nathan Myers, 29, of DeKalb, was arrested after allegedly using an aluminum pole as a weapon near Travel Inn, 1116 W. Lincoln Highway.

DeKalb Police Sgt. Craig Woodruff said a small argument started to escalate between Myers and another person Thursday night. Myers called the police and made a false statement about guns being involved in an attempt to get the police to respond faster, Woodruff said.

Officers arrived on scene at the inn at around 9 p.m. When police arrived, Myers was charged with unlawful use of a weapon — the aluminum pole — and disorderly conduct for the false police report.

“It sounded a lot worse on the scanner than it actually was,” Woodruff said.
