‘Suit up’ in trendy men’s blazers

By Aymie Telinski

Blazers are essential to a man’s wardrobe. So, as Barney Stinson from “How I Met your Mother” would say, “Suit up.”

The first thing about a suit jacket is the fit. If the jacket looks like you are borrowing it from your grandpa or little brother, you are doing something wrong.

According to GQ.com, “A good suit should hug your shoulders, not slouch off them…. When buying a suit, go ahead and try sizing down. When you pull on the jacket, there should be a firmness to it.”

If you’re short, be honest with yourself and buy a short-length jacket. If you don’t, you will look like a little boy wearing his dad’s jacket because you forgot yours at home. To appear taller, get a jacket that with low-placed buttons. This gives the torso a nice long look.

A nice touch is to add a pocket square; this will draw attention to your chest and make the overall look clean and sophisticated.

According to GQ.com, “We like to think that you should dress like you eat — seasonally. Not only is it a way to bring some variety to your wardrobe; it’s also sensible. When the temperature drops, reach for heavier, warmer fabrics. When it’s hot and humid, keep your suiting lightweight and pretty much cotton exclusively.”

Flannel, corduroy and tweed are great for the winter and will keep you nice and warm.
