Basketball player arrested over weekend

Correction: Daveon Balls was charged with possession of cannabis 30 grams and under on Friday, not Sunday as the Star originally reported.

An NIU basketball player was arrested Sunday.

Daveon Balls, 18, of Indianapolis, was charged with possession of cannabis 30 grams and under on Sunday. He is a sophomore guard for the Huskies.

An officer was conducting a traffic detail at 900 N. Annie Glidden Drive prior to Balls’ arrest. According to DeKalb police, an officer saw Balls drive into a 7-Eleven parking lot. Balls was not wearing a seat belt, so the officer pulled him over.

NIU Athletics said it is “continuing to gather more information regarding the incident.”
