‘Saints Row IV’ has more of the same bizarre humor, great gameplay

Imagine standing in the White House and having to make the decision of ending world hunger or curing cancer. Which do you choose?

That is one of the first decision gamers make in “Saints Row IV,” a new game by Volition Inc. “Saints Row IV” is an open-world action-adventure game for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

For those unfamiliar with the Saints Row franchise, it is a Grand Theft Auto crime-based video game with a comedic twist. The franchise is well known for making its games as ridiculous and funny as possible. Anything can go in “Saints Row IV,” which features missions where you drive a tiger around in your convertible or walk in virtual reality as a toilet.

In this newest addition to the Saints Row anthology, gamers start off as the president of the United States. The main duty as president is protecting the United States from alien invaders would be bent on destroying the world. The street gang — the Saints — and the president are prepared to fight the alien menace anyway they see fit.

From a Dubstep Gun to the Inflato-ray, it is very difficult to get bored when destroying your enemies.

“The Dubstep gun is my favorite weapon in the new game,” said senior economics major Jordan Wynne. “It’s hilarious watching people dance themselves to death to random dubstep songs.”

“Saints Row IV” takes everything it can to the extreme, from its crude sense of humor to the character customization and powerups. As a fan of the bizarre, toilet jokes and the completely

unexpected, this game is a dream come true.

“Saints Row games have always been full of dirty humor,” said Wynne. “The best part about the newer games is that they are very clever.”

Vitriol Inc. has made “Saints Row IV” another satire of current generation action games. By turning the violence and sexism to the maximum, the gameplay becomes an inside joke among gamers while still being immensely fun.

Character customization is one of my favorite parts about video games, and it is another thing “Saints Row IV” does well. Being able to make a unique character model is simple and gives you plenty of options. The game gives you the choice of voice actors to speak for your character, including Nolan North from The Last of Us and the Assassin’s Creed series.

The new Saints Row is ridiculous and fun, and it is certainly worth the purchase.
