Student Spotlight: Anna Perez

By Brooke Shinberg

This week’s student spotlight features Ana Perez, health science rehab services major, with a occupational therapy emphasis.

Northern Star: Why did you choose health science rehab services as your major?

Ana Perez: To help others.

NS: Why the emphasis in occupational therapy?

AP: I want to go into graduate school for occupational therapy.

NS: What is something you are proud of?

AP: My family because they’re awesome.

NS: What is something you have accomplished that you are proud of?

AP: I’ve got my associate degree already.

NS: What is your plan for the next five years?

AP: Hopefully I will be an occupational therapist by then.

NS: What is the best part of NIU so far?

AP: The people are really nice. Parties.

NS: What is one thing you would like to do before you die?

AP: I want to go skydiving, that’s for sure. Travel.

NS: If you could only go one place where would it be?

AP: I really want to go see the great pyramids of Egypt. I just love ancient architecture.

NS: What is something very few people know about you?

AP: I really like to paint.

NS: What is the best place on campus?

AP: I spend most of my time here [Holmes Student Center].

NS: [Do you come] to study or just to hang out?

AP: Mostly to do some homework in between classes. It’s not too loud or too quiet.

NS: What is the worst part of NIU?

AP: The distance from home.

NS: Where are you from?

AP: Island Lake, Illinois.

NS: Why did you choose NIU?

AP: Not many schools offer rehab services. It’s better than going to some other school and getting a degree in like psychology.

NS: Do you have any advice for fellow students?

AP: If you have the option to live here instead of commuting then you should live here. You get more involved.
