Top 10 athletes: #9

Coming in at number nine on the top 10 list of NIU athletes in 2013 is women’s soccer goalkeeper Amy Carr.

Carr, a junior native of Hemel Hempstead, England, was a key factor in the Huskies’ turnaround in fall 2012 when they won eight games compared to two in the fall 2011.

She appeared in 18 of the 19 teams the Huskies played with a record of 8-8-2 with six shutouts and a goals-against average of 0.89. Carr’s 2011 GAA was the third time an NIU goalkeeper had a mark under one. Former Huskie keeper Lindsey Curnock, who pulled off that feat in 2007 (0.53) and 2008 (0.97), was the other.

Those stellar numbers earned Carr second-team all MAC honors. She became the first keeper in program history to be awarded the honor.

Carr said this award helps her realize NIU is where she belongs.

“It was a big decision for me to come here in the first place,” Carr said. “So, just knowing that my hard work paid off and I did make the right decision to come here. It just makes me realize that I did make the right decision coming here.”
