A vehicle crashed through the Alpha Sigma Alpha (ASA) sorority house, 1019 Ridge Drive, shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday.
DeKalb Police Sgt. Jim Haacker said there were no injuries. The driver, 22, had a learners permit, Haacker said. She was taking a right turn from 919 Ridge Road heading south with one passenger, 23. Haacker said she confused the brake and gas pedals, continuing right through the front of the sorority.
DeKalb Fire Chief Eric Hicks said the car stopped when it hit the windows in the back of the house.
Hicks expected cleanup to take several hours. The Fire Department also had to reset the fire alarm because it was set off when the car entered the house. Hicks said sorority members would be able to get back into the home that night. A fire truck, Police Department SUV and Fire Department SUV were on scene.
“We just came back and [the building] was closed off,” said Liz Rytych, ASA sorority member and senior finance major. “I have no idea where the car came from.”
The sorority members were allowed to re-enter the building at 8:30 p.m. following the firefighter crew cleaning up.
Rytych said there were at least three or four girls inside the house during the incident.
