The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life annual kick-off event, to be held Tuesday, will offer information to students about the organization’s mission.

Guests will be able to win prizes and learn more about the society’s planned activities for this year, including an overnight event where teams of local businesses, schools, churches, groups and families will unite as a community in the fight against cancer, according to an email from Amy Jo Steinbruecker, American Cancer Society’s manager of public relations.

The kick-off begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Neptune Hall, according to Steinbruecker.

The mission of the American Cancer Society is to save lives faster by helping people stay well, get well, find cures and fight back, according to Steinbruecker. Anyone interested is encouraged to attend.

According to Steinbruecker, the main objective of Relay for Life is to raise money for cancer research and cancer patients. Participants will celebrate this year’s efforts at the overnight event on April 12 at the Convocation Center.
