Women’s tennis headed for Iowa

The women’s tennis team will head to Des Moines, Iowa, this week.

They will participate in a triple header against University of Nebraska Omaha (2-1), Drake University (4-5) and University of Central Arkansas (5-7).

The Huskies are on a six-game winning streak with their last and only loss coming on Feb. 2 against Southern Illinois University. The Huskies have been on a roll, defeating opponents without giving up a team point or even a point in general, to have a record of 9-1 at the midpoint of the season.

“…We got a very nice start to the season,” said head coach Ryun Ferrell. “Team is playing really well, and it’s nice to see because the kids deserve it.”

When the Huskies head out to Iowa to face off against their opponents, they will be playing a little bit harder in their match against Drake.

“I’m looking forward to this week,” Ferrell said. “We know Drake, they beat us 5-2 [last season]. We want revenge.”

As always, Ferrell has emphasized doubles play and discipline every week. In order for his team to keep up the work they are doing, he said they should not go overboard in training.

“We can’t kill them in practice and [their] immune system breaks down,” Ferrell said. “[We need to] stay healthy with the cold and flu [going around] and hope kids get plenty of rest.”
