Court hearing postponed for Pi Kappa Alpha members

By Northern Star Staff

Three of the five Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity members charged with hazing offenses in relation to the Nov. 2 death of David Bogenberger have had their court dates postponed until 9 a.m. April 10.

Steven A. Libert, Alexander M. Jandik and Omar Salameh appeared in court Monday morning for Class 4 felony and misdemeanor hazing charges from Dec. 17, in regard to the death of the freshman pledge a month prior. It was then that Judge John McAdams said their dates would be postponed.

The fraternity’s vice president, James P. Harvey, will have a status hearing at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the DeKalb County Courthouse. The fraternity’s secretary, Patrick W. Merrill, will appear in court at 9 a.m. on March 25 for a status hearing. Both also face felony hazing charges.

Seventeen other members are facing misdemeanor charges for hazing.

ABC News requested for extended media coverage Wednesday in order to broadcast the hearing, but the request was denied Friday. McAdams said his reason for denial was due to the short notice of the request, but he was abiding by Supreme Court guidelines.
