InFocus: Valentine’s Day Plans

I don’t think that Valentine’s Day is different from any other day.

I don’t believe in going out of my way to give my wife a gift or take her to some expensive restaurant. To me, I think one should always treat that special someone like royalty and let them know how much they’re loved every day. My Valentine’s Day with my wife is going to be just like Wednesday, next Thursday or the Sunday before Christmas. It’s just another day when I tell my wife I love her, and I appreciate everything she does.

Valentine’s Day is one of those holidays I usually watch pass without a second glance. Not because I don’t like it, but because it’s generally just another day for me.

Tonight, I plan on singing some karaoke with an amazing person, and hey, maybe there will be some duets in store for me. While I don’t have a girlfriend this year, I’m not going to let that bring me down. Singles can have fun on Valentine’s Day, too–and it means I won’t have to spend a lot of money on chocolate and roses.

This Valentine’s Day is like no other for me because I am actually excited this year.

I have a Valentine who actually embraces the holiday. I am going to enjoy the simpler things in life today. I already have my small tokens of appreciation for my valentine: one “A Tribe Called Quest” record, one strawberry grow kit, one Pablo Neruda love poem book and three fancy chocolates.

People, believe me when I say I am prepared. I plan to end my evening over a heart-shaped pizza that I will share with my better half.
