Daughter Safe workshops teach girls mental preparedness, assertiveness training, self-defense techniques, and Internet safety, according to a Monday news release from the Kishwaukee Family YMCA, 2500 Bethany Road in Sycamore.

The class is taught by retired police Lt. Tom Scott and there will also be various professionals in self-protection and risk management helping out, according to the release.

The class will take place from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the YMCA. Participants must be 6 and up. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. There is a fee to attend the class of $10 for members and $15 for non-members. Parents and legal guardians will not be charged and there is a limit of two guardians per child. This is a female-only class, the only males that will be admitted are parent/guardians. Those who attend will be asked to join in the discussion, according to the release.
