On Nov. 18, the Kishwaukee Family YMCA, DeKalb School District, Kishwaukee Community Hospital and NIU teamed up to host a family night at the YMCA, 2500 Bethany Road.

More than 70 families attended this event, which included four stations that encouraged physical activity and taught nutrition, according to a Wednesday news release. The activities featured items from the co-ordinated approach to child health program, including a nutrition presentation. Families also participated in board games, Dance Dance Revolution, My Plate crafts, rock climbing, basketball, volleyball, soccer and a bounce house, according to the release.

“Our families had fun playing together and learning at the same time,” said Cristy Meyer, principal of Jefferson Elementary School, 211 McCormick Drive, in the release.

This event had local support: transportation was funded by a grant from the DeKalb County Health Department, and the bounce house was donated from Jumpy Jumpers.

“Family night is a great way for us to support families on their journey to health and well-being by providing a fun and educational environment,” said Lesley Feyerherm, youth development director for the Kishwaukee YMCA, in the release.
