College of Engineering to get a new lab

OMRON Global will be sponsoring the development of a new lab for the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, according to NIU Today.

The new lab will include state-of-the-art equipment like robotics arms, microcontrollers and testing equipment, according to NIU Today. Researchers and students will also be able to visually record their work.

The construction and installation of the lab will continue throughout the rest of the semester. Some student groups are using the new lab space and faculty are redesigning certain courses to take advantage of the new equipment, according to NIU Today.

OMRON Global is an international company that focuses on manufacturing automation products by producing motors, sensors and safety equipment, according to NIU Today. OMRON Global representatives will visit the campus to see a presentation and view the lab’s progress, according to NIU Today.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the completed lab will happen in March.
