Experts from the University of Illinois Wildlife Medical Clinic are treating an injured golden eagle that appeared to have been lost, according to the Associated Press.

The eagle has a broken bone in its left wing, according to the Associated Press. The Champaign News-Gazette reports the bird was rescued last week near Sadorus, according to the Associated Pres. Sadorus is about 10 miles south of Champaign.

Dr. Julia Whittington said it’s rare for the clinic to treat a golden eagle. The birds are usually found in the western areas of the U.S. and usually migrate to Mexico. Whittington said the bird may have gotten lost and veered off course to Illinois, according to the Associated Press.

Golden eagles have a brown head with a golden sheen and are larger than bald eagles, Whittington said.

According to the Associated Press, Whittington said the bird will take four to six weeks to heal.
