No. 4 for top 10 NIU athletes: Jordan Godsey

By Brian Thomas

Jordan Godsey of NIU men’s soccer is no stranger to the Northern Star’s top 10 athletes of the year, as he has made the cut in each of his three seasons.

He continues to move up in the rankings, as he earned the No. 10 his freshman year, and jumped to No. 6 in his sophomore year.

This season, the Huskies goalkeeper comes in at No. 4 on the Northern Star’s top 10 11’-’12 NIU athletes list after helping lead the Huskies to a MAC championship, as well as the second round of the NCAA tournament.

“It feels great to make the list again,” Godsey said. “I keep moving up and getting better, and that feels pretty good.”

The Ocean Springs, Miss. native also continued to improve his numbers compared to his previous seasons, and in the process, set two NIU single-season records.

After starting in all 21 games this year, Godsey set the single-season record for most wins by posting a record of 15-6-0.

Godsey set another single-season record for most shutouts with 12. There were three different streaks of three-game consecutive shutouts.

With 12 shutouts, Godsey broke the previous record of 11 by Markus Roy who set it in 1989 and Joe Zimka who tied it back in 2006.

Godsey also improved his goals against average from last season from 0.71 to 0.70 putting him second on the single-season list.

To attribute how good Godsey was this season, he was named to the NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region Third Team, the All-MAC First Team, and also to the All-MAC Tournament Team.
