A stopped train on the tracks in downtown DeKalb blocked traffic for nearly four hours Wednesday morning.

DeKalb Police Lt. Carl Leoni said the train was stopped from about 6 to 9:45 a.m. due to broken couplings, the devices that hold the cars together, between railroad cars. This blocked all railroad crossings in the area including those at First, Second, Third, Fourth, Sixth and Tenth streets, Leoni said. The train also blocked traffic at the underpass at Pearl Street and the overpass at Peace Road.

Leoni said officers were put on the scene to help direct traffic around the blockages. Officers also put up barricades to let drivers know to use other routes. Leoni said local radio stations were also contacted to help disperse the news.
